Lincoln football falls behind 49-0, loses 61-29 to SBU

BOLIVAR, Mo. - The Lincoln football team couldn't recover from a six-score halftime deficit in a 62-19, season-ending loss Saturday to Southwest Baptist.

The Bearcats (4-6, 3-5 Great Lakes Valley Conference) held the Blue Tigers (1-10, 0-8) scoreless in the first half, as the home side took a 49-0 lead into halftime.

Southwest Baptist punted on its first two possessions, and then rallied for six straight scores in as many possessions.

The Bearcats dominated the rushing game 236-54, largely in part to the GLVC's leading rusher, Bubba Jenkins. Jenkins rushed for 167 yards and one touchdown on 27 carries.

Southwest Baptist quarterback Tren Edwards completed 12-of-18 passes for 279 yards and five touchdowns.

Scottie Wilson had four catches for 139 yards with two scores for the Bearcats, with one being a 91-yarder midway through the second quarter. In addition, Kendrick Payne had 84 yards on four receptions and two touchdowns. Preseason All-American wide receiver Nathan Mourik was limited to just one catch, but it was a 19-yard touchdown snag late in the first quarter.

Lincoln senior Owen Jordan got the nod under center, but connected on just 11-of-21 passes for 97 yards. Backup Dennis Vinson, a sophomore, was 17-of-25 for 208 yards and three touchdowns.

Two of Vinson's touchdowns were caught by Bryson Winfrey, who led all receivers with 13 catches for 143 yards and two scores. Delvon Rouser had a 19-yard touchdown catch.

On the defensive side of the ball for the Blue Tigers, senior linebacker Treston Pulley led all tacklers with 11. Senior linebacker Jeremy Rives finished with 10 tackles, while Lincoln's leading tackler, senior Kareem Joyner, had four tackles to finish his season with 103.
