Former Morgan Co. sheriff's secretary pleads to stealing charges

A former secretary for the Morgan County Sheriff's Office who was charged with felony theft from her place of employment last year has pled guilty to the charges against her and was placed on five years supervised probation.

On Tuesday, in Miller County Circuit Court, due to a change of venue from Morgan County, Tami Annette Davis, 45 pled guilty to two counts of stealing over $500.

According to authorities, by pleading guilty to both counts of stealing, Davis admitted to that she stole cash bond receipts from the Morgan County Jail.

As part of her sentence she must serve 30 days shock in the Miller County Jail, perform 250 hours of community service and pay restitution of $18,478.13 to Morgan County. In addition she was required to submit a letter of apology to the citizens of Morgan County.

In the apology letter, Davis said ," I take full responsibility for any missing funds or discrepancies in the Morgan County Sheriff's Civil fees fund account during my employment in the office. I sincerely apologize for hurting the citizen's trust and the county's reputation. It was my responsibility to maintain this account and I failed. I was entrusted by the Morgan County Sheriff with certain funds and I violated that trust by taking money that wasn't mine."

Davis, who originally had been charged with seven counts of felony theft and was scheduled to go to trial Tuesday, was found to have stolen the bond money from May 2, 2013, to Aug. 18, 2014.
