Crusaders, Lady Crusaders win district cross country crowns

MOBERLY, Mo. - The Helias Crusaders and Lady Crusaders both claimed team honors Saturday in the Class 3 District 5 Cross Country Championships.

Both teams have qualified for next Saturday's state championships at the Oak Hills Golf Center.

Kayla Yanksey of the Lady Crusaders captured individual girls honors with a time of 19:52.50.

Three other Lady Crusaders earned all-district honors - Abby Hake (seventh, 20:45.20), Lanie Hentges (ninth, 20:59.60) and Allison Wieberg (10th, 21:01.80). Other Helias finishers included Alicia Engelbrecht was 17th, Kylie Mulholland was 21st and Katherine McDonald was 25th.

The Lady Crusaders finished with 44 team points to best nine other teams.

On the boys side, Helias finished with 38 team points to top the 10-team field.

Helias had five runners earn all-district honors - Elliot Knernschield (second, 16:44.40), Connor Frank (fifth, 17:30.70), Nathan Wieberg (ninth, 18:08.60), Joe Bruemmer (10th, 18:10.40) and Brian Kirchoff (12th, 18:13.60). Jack Hentges was 19th, while Colby Kroll was 21st for the Crusaders.
