Girl rewarded for good deed

In response to an accidental donation of $1,900 at the Jefferson City Goodwill in April, the 9-year-old girl who found the money was rewarded for her efforts on Friday.

Alyssa Donehue was presented a check for $500 at the store on Missouri Boulevard.

It was a surprise for Alyssa since her parents told her they were going shopping, but the staff greeted her with the check when she and her family arrived.

In April, Goodwill officials said Alyssa found the money in a donated piece of clothing while shopping with her father.

At the time, Goodwill officials said two other stores, one in Fenton and one in Carbondale, Illinois, also reported large amounts of money being found in donated materials, something they said usually occurs as people do their annual spring cleaning. They urged those planning to donate to check all pockets of clothing before dropping items off.
