SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -The 1-2 punch of the Blair Oaks Falcons finished 1-2 in the state.
Tanner Elder and Kory Franks claimed the top two spots in the Class 2 state golf championships that concluded Tuesday at Rivercut Golf Course.
"They really came through," Blair Oaks coach Leroy Bernskoetter said. "Their two-day totals were both very good."
Elder finished with a 140, one shot better than Franks, who won the state title last year.
"It's great to have two individual champions," Bernskoetter said.
After opening with an even-par 72 on Monday, Elder fired a four-under 68 on Tuesday. Bernskoetter said the junior went on a birdie-binge on the back nine Tuesday.
"Tanner didn't give up and he got the birdies when he had the chance," Bernskoetter said. "You have to give him kudos, he went after it. He needed to put those birdies together and he did."
The 68 was the best round by four shots by any player Tuesday.
Elder, a junior, is now a three-time state medalist. He tied for eighth in 2014 and tied for second as a freshman.
Franks, the Missouri State signee who opened with a five-under 67, shot a 74 on Tuesday.
"I don't think he had the opportunity to get the birdies he had Monday," Bernskoetter said. "I know it will hurt him for a while, but he has a bright future."
The duo led the Falcons to a second-place finish as a team as Blair Oaks totaled a 631.
"I am really pleased with how we played as a team," Bernskoetter said.
Jake VanRonzelen finished in a tie for 34th with a 167, while Kyle Backes totaled a 183 to tie for 67th.
"Jake was solid both days and Kyle played really well for a guy who had never really played much competitive golf before by staying away from the big numbers," Bernskoetter said.
Barstow repeated as the team state champion, finishing at 620.
