Track and Field: Lincoln men win

DEKALB, Ill. - The Lincoln men's track and field team racked up 127 points and captured the title in the Huskie Open hosted by Northern Illinois University on Saturday.

Southeast Missouri State (74.5 points) was second in the six-team meet, followed by Lindenwood (62.5), Cardinal Stritch (56), Culver-Stockton (30) and Carthage (14).

Romone Hill led four Blue Tigers in the 100-meter dash, winning in 10.75. Sedeekie Edie was fourth (10.87), Jakiel David placed seventh (11.29) and Triston Hayes finished eighth (11.78).

Miguel Barton won the 400-meter dash (47.51), with Roger Blake coming in third (48.16).

Jeromia Riley was the victor in the 800-meter run (1:52.19), while Winston Edwards won the 400-meter hurdles (52.16) and took second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.64).

Also in the 400 hurdles, Darran Hunter was the runner-up (52.35), Alva Henry took third (55.31) and Christian Thompson came in sixth (1:02.77).

Orneldo Thomas was the winner of the long jump (7.23 meters) and Edie finished second in the triple jump (14.17 meters).

Hampton Mayson took third in the javelin throw (42.46m) and sixth in the discus throw (41.73m).

Hayes took third in the 200-meter dash (23.39) while Thompson placed fourth (25.35).

Lincoln had two entries in the 4x400-meter relay, with the foursome of Barton, Blake, Riley and Edwards winning in 3:12.72. The team of Hunter, Hayes, Henry and David was the runner-up, clocking in at 3:40.75.

On the women's side, Lincoln placed second with 125 points, trailing the 219 put up by Northern Illinois. The rest of the field was made up of Southeast Missouri State (56), Lindenwood (42), Cardinal Stritch (27), Culver-Stockton (10), the Illinois Track Club (6) and Speed Factory Athletics (6).

Lincoln dominated the 100-meter dash, with Yanique Ellington winning (11.74), Keja Christie finishing second (12.03), Adewumi Ademuwagun coming in third (12.27), Kimberly Bailey placing fourth (12.57) and Erika Spencer coming in sixth (13.03).

Jonelle Campbell won the triple jump with a distance of 11.80 meters, while Lovan Palmer won the the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.48). Also in the 400 hurdles, Harriott was second (1:05.04). Harriott also competed in the 100-meter hurdles, placing third (14.27).

The Blue Tigers won both relays. The foursome of Christie, Ellington, Bailey and Ademuwagun was first in the 4x100-meter in 45.28 and the team of Monique Thompson, Willomena Williams, Palmer and Ebony Rose won the 4x400-meter in at 3:42.04.

Also in the 4x400, Lincoln placed third with the squad of Ladonna Richards, Ellington, Nadia Harriott and Bailey (3:57.20).

Ademuwagun was third in the long jump (5.45 meters), Akeeba Rose was third in the 1,500-meter run (5:24.53) and fourth in the 800-meter run (2:35.18).

In the 400-meter dash, Williams was second (55.06), Jhevere Hall was fourth (56.26) and Rose was sixth (57.55).

On Friday, the Lincoln men traveled to the Grand Valley State Last Chance Meet in Allendale, Mich., with the team capturing three first-place finishes.

Barton won the 400-meter dash (47.44), Riley was victorious in the 800-meter run (1:52.10) and the 4x100-meter relay team won with the grouping of Wesley Best, Barton, Blake and Hill (40.58).

Edwards finished second in the 400-meter hurdles (52.42) and Hill was third in the 100-meter dash (10.60).

Lincoln has now wrapped up its regular season and is waiting to see how many entries it will qualify into the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be hosted by Grand Valley State University from May 21-23.
