Woman faces charges in case of slain Nebraska mother

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Omaha authorities said Saturday they made a second arrest in the death of a woman whose 11-month-old was discovered alive in a trash container and whose 5-year-old son is missing.

Omaha police said 24-year-old Gabriela Guevara is charged with accessory to homicide.

Guevara is the girlfriend of Roberto Martinez-Marinero, The Omaha World Herald reported (http://bit.ly/1IrWyos) .

Martinez-Marinero, 25, was charged with first-degree murder on Thursday after he told the Douglas County Department of Corrections staff he had argued about money with his mother, 45-year-old Jesus Ismenia Marinero, before stabbing her.

Her body was found Wednesday night hours after her youngest child, an 11-month-old boy, Angel Ramirez-Marinero, was found in a trash container near a suburban Omaha apartment complex. He was returned to the custody of his father on Friday evening.

Investigators believe Marinero's 5-year-old son, Josue Ramirez-Marinero, was thrown into the Elkhorn River and search efforts continued Saturday.

About 100 law enforcement officers from local, state and federal agencies and dive crews searched Friday and search teams continued to search the river banks Saturday.

Seven boats searched the river, said Omaha Police Capt. Kerry Neumann.

"There's a lot of debris, trees and other (underwater) obstructions" to be searched, Neumann said.

Marinero, 45, and her two boys, Angel and Josue, disappeared on Tuesday and were last seen at the children's day care. A couple walking Wednesday evening near Fourth and Cedar Streets discovered her body.

Earlier Wednesday, the baby was found alive, wearing only a diaper, in a dumpster at an apartment complex.

Martinez-Marinero turned himself in to authorities at the Douglas County Jail at 9:10 p.m. Thursday. He told detectives that he killed his mother, put Angel in the trash bin and threw Josue in the river, Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said.
