Downtown streets closing for ShelbyFest starting today

With activities for ShelbyFest this Saturday, Jefferson City police are reminding residents this event will require road closures in the downtown area from 5 a.m. until 5 p.m.

There are a number of streets that will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking, this includes all of High Street from Broadway Street to just east of Monroe Street, at the entrance to the Cole County Sheriff's Department. In addition, Madison Street will be closed from Wall Way to Capitol Avenue, then north of Capitol Avenue to State Street, which allows for east/west traffic on Capitol. Also, Monroe Street from Wall Way to Commercial Avenue will be closed. Jefferson Street, north/south traffic, will be open to normal traffic flow throughout the event.

Downtown businesses will be open during normal hours and alternate parking is available at various other locations downtown. The lower levels of the Madison Street garage that are accessible by Commercial Avenue and by Capitol Avenue will be open, and the Monroe Street Parking Garage in the 100 block of Monroe Street will be accessible as well.

Due to the anticipated number of people taking part in the activities, authorities are asking motorists to pay extra attention to pedestrian traffic in the downtown area.
