Area athletes compete in CMU open

FAYETTE - Several area athletes posted top-eight results in the Central Methodist Open on Saturday.

Competing unattached, Will Fife (Helias High School) won the men's shot put with a heave of 49-81/2 and came in third in the discus (143-10).

Competing for Computomarx, Andy Gilmore (Southern Boone High School) won the high jump by 10 inches, taking first at 6-103/4.

Preston Wolfe (Southern Boone High School) came in third in the high jump (5-3) and was part of the William Woods 4x400-meter relay team that finished third.

Central Methodist's Dilan Simmons (Linn High School) was second in the discus (146-3), third in the shot put (46-103/4) and third in the hammer throw (155-8).

Central Methodist won the meet with 163 points and was followed by Maryville (117), William Woods (116), Illinois College (81), Hannibal-LaGrange (68), Missouri Baptist (63), Greenville College (8) and Columbia College (3).

On the women's side, William Woods' Madelyn Scrivner (Eldon High School) won the shot put with a mark of 39-103/4, came in third in the hammer throw (137-7) and finished fourth in the discus (115-7).

William Woods' Abby Baker (Jefferson City High School) was seventh in the 1,500-meter run (5;39.93) and teammate Alex Apperson (Eldon High School) was seventh in the 800-meter run (2:45.22). Both were part of the Owls' 4x800-meter relay team that took first (10:46.35).

Central Methodist took first with 176 points and William Woods was second with 126. The rest of the eight-team meet was made up of Missouri Baptist (86), Hannibal-LaGrange (75.5), Maryville (65), Illinois College (29.5), Greenville College (18) and Columbia College (10).
