Lincoln softball falls at Northwest Missouri State

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Lincoln Blue Tigers dropped a twinbill Friday to Northwest Missouri State.

In the opener, Lincoln scored twice in the top of the seventh to take the lead, only to see the Northwest Missouri State score three times in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-3 victory.

Northwest scored in the third to take the lead before Lincoln tied it in the sixth on a solo home run by Macie Kinsey.

In the seventh, Lincoln took a 3-1 lead when Allyson Corry doubled home Megan Heimbaugh and Jessica Wolken. But the first four Northwest Missouri State batters in the bottom of the inning singled, resulting in three runs.

Heimbaugh had three of Lincoln's eight hits in the game.

Madison Rager went the distance to take the loss. She allowed four earned runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out one.

It was a different story in the second game as Northwest Missouri State scored in all four innings in an 8-0 win shortened by the run rule.

Madison Gooden had Lincoln's lone hit in the game.

Kinsey took the loss, working two innings She allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks. Lauren Stamp pitched the final two innings, allowing four runs (no earned) on three hits.

Lincoln had four errors in the game.

Lincoln (3-25 overall, 2-12 Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association), is back in action today in a doubleheader at Missouri Western in St. Joseph. Northwest Missouri State is now 11-15, 5-5.
