Scott County Central grabs Class 2 boys title

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Javonta Daniel scored 23 points while Jeffery Porter added 17 to lead Scott County Central past Mid-Buchanan 53-48 in the Class 2 Boys Championship on Saturday.

Scott County Central captured its state-leading 18th title in school history, including its sixth in the past seven years. The Braves (27-4) previously competed in Class 1 before moving up to Class 2 this season.

Mid-Buchanan trailed throughout the first half but scored the first 10 points of the third quarter to knot the score at 36. The teams then traded points before Scott County Central gained the lead for good with 3:45 remaining on a layup by Porter that made it 48-46.

Garet Moulden finished with 24 points for the Dragons (30-2), who made their first-ever appearance in the title game.
