Lincoln softball drops pair to Drury

The Lincoln softball team played its first home games of the season Monday in hopes of notching its first win, but the Blue Tigers dropped both games to Drury, falling 13-3 and 9-0.

Drury hit five home runs and nine doubles between the two games, with both being ended after five innings due to the run rule.

The Panthers' first four runs of the day came off homers, and Drury led 4-0 after 31/2 innings in the opener before Megan Heimbaugh responded with a solo shot for Lincoln in the bottom of the fourth.

Lauren Stamp then reached on a hit and scored when Spencer Silva reached on an error. Jessica Wolken drove in Silva to bring Lincoln within 4-3.

But Drury crossed the plate nine more times on seven hits in the fifth inning to end the game early.

Stamp and Wolken led the Blue Tigers with two hits apiece, with one of Stamp's hits being a double. Avery Myers also had a double for Lincoln.

Madison Ragar worked the first 32/3 innings while taking the loss. She gave up seven runs (four earned) on eight hits and one walk while striking out one. Stamp pitched the final 11/3 and gave up six earned runs on three hits and two walks. She struck out one.

The Panthers (5-5) remained hot in the second game, opening with a five-run, seven-hit top of the first.

Lincoln failed to score in the game's five innings despite reaching base in four of them.

The Lady Panthers rounded out their scoring with one run in the third and three in the fifth before again ending it after five innings due to the run rule.

Silva was the losing pitcher, as she gave up five earned runs on six hits and one walk in just 1/3 of an inning. Macie Kinsey worked the next 42/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits and one walk while recording one strikeout.

Lincoln had just three hits in the contest.

The Blue Tigers (0-11) return to the diamond Wednesday in Liberty, where they will play two games against William Jewell.
