Missouri baseball drops three to Milwaukee

COLUMBIA - The Missouri Tigers managed just 16 hits in 27 innings of play while starting the home portion of their schedule with three losses to Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

The Tigers started the series Friday with a 7-4 loss, as the Panthers had a 13-6 edge in hits.

Milwaukee never trailed, going up 2-0 in the second and 4-0 after four. Missouri got within 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth, but Milwaukee made it 6-3 in the sixth.

Each team scored one more run, the Tigers getting theirs in the seventh and the Panthers in the eighth.

Reggie McClain started and took the loss for Missouri, giving up five earned runs on 10 hits in 51/3 innings. He walked two and struck out five.

Brett Peel had a double and two RBI to pace the Missouri offense, while Jake Ring and Chris Akmon drove in one run each.

On Saturday, a four-run fifth inning spurred Milwaukee to a 5-1 victory.

Missouri scored the game's first run in the second when Logan Pearson stole home.

Milwaukee, which had an 8-6 edge in hits, tied it in the third and won it in the fifth thanks to four hits and one error.

Pearson had three of Missouri's six hits.

Tanner Houck was the losing pitcher, giving up five earned runs on seven hits and one walk. He racked up nine strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Missouri then managed just four hits Sunday, two of them by Pearson, as it lost 3-1.

Milwaukee, which got just eight hits of its own, scored single runs in the first, sixth and seventh to win it. Missouri got its only tally in the seventh on a solo home run by Zach Lavy.

Peter Fairbanks was the starter and loser for the Tigers. He allowed two runs (one earned) while striking out five in six innings.

The Tigers dropped to 10-4 on the season, while the Panthers improved to 8-3.

Missouri returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Truman State in a single game at 6 p.m.
