Missouri hosting MAC wrestling championships

The No. 1 Missouri Tigers begin the wrestling postseason today when they host the Mid-America Conference championships.

Missouri, which ended the regular season 24-0 in duals, are seeking their third straight MAC championship and fourth consecutive conference title dating back to the 2012 crown in the Big 12.

Six Tigers are seeded No. 1 in the tournament - redshirt senior Alan Waters (27-0), redshirt sophomore Zach Synon (28-11), redshirt senior Drake Houdashelt (29-1), redshirt senior Johnny Eblen (25-4), redshirt freshman Willie Miklus (26-6) and sophomore J'den Cox (30-0).

Houdashelt and Cox are both defending individual conference champions.

Other schools in the tournament are Old Dominion, Central Michigan, Northern Iowa, Ohio, Kent State, Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan.

Action begins at 2 p.m. today at the Hearnes Center with quarterfinal matches. The semifinals and first consolation round will begin at 5 p.m.

On Sunday, competition begins at noon with the consolation round. At 1:20 p.m., matches for the championship, third- and fifth-places will begin.
