Clayton faces trial on child sex charges

A Jefferson City man has been indicted by the Cole County Grand Jury on multiple child sex charges, which sends his case to the circuit court for a possible trial.

Andrew Clayton, 36, of 2417 St. Louis Road, is charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child, promoting child pornography, enticement of a child and second-degree statutory sodomy.

A Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement states several juvenile males and young adult males who are all known to each other were interviewed by authorities earlier this month.

One of those individuals told authorities he had received multiple messages through a social media app known as KIK from a person offering to perform oral sex on him.

The statement states the victim, a 14-year-old juvenile male, said he met Clayton during the summer of 2014 and on numerous occasions Clayton had performed oral sex on him. The victim also said Clayton took several nude photos of him. This victim and other witnesses gave a description that matched Clayton's vehicle and subsequently authorities arrested Clayton after a traffic stop.

During an interview with authorities, Clayton allegedly admitted to performing oral sex and receiving anal sex from the victim and was aware the victim was 14 years of age.

He also admitted to soliciting other victims and said he met many of them using the KIK app.

Police said the victim positively identified Clayton in a photo lineup. Police said Clayton said he electronically transferred nude pictures and a video of the victim to other people. He allegedly said he had a fake KIK account besides the one he used to meet juveniles and that he portrayed himself as an 18-year-old female and said he received multiple nude photos of juveniles through this account.

All these incidents occurred in the Cole County area, police said.
