A total of 21 area players were honored recently when the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association named its all-state teams.
The Jefferson City Jays had one player make the Class 5 squad, as senior Bret Jaegers was an honorable-mention selection at DH/utility.
In Class 4, the Helias Crusaders had three players honored. Todd Buschjost, a senior, was a second-team pick at DH/utility. The Crusaders had two honorable-mention selections in senior catcher Alex Barton and sophomore outfielder Zach Stiles.
The Class 3 state champion Fatima Comets had three players honored by the coaches. Two of them were first-teamers - senior Logan Vogel at pitcher and junior Will Robertson at infielder - and senior Sam Hager was a second-team outfielder.
Also in Class 3, South Callaway senior Corey Hanger was a first-team honoree at outfielder.
In Class 2, a whopping five New Bloomfield were honored after the Wildcats finished second in the state.
Making the first team for New Bloomfield were junior Clay Jensen at pitcher, junior Derek Shikles at catcher, senior Tucker Lane at outfielder and junior Tyler Fennewald at DH/utility. Sam Niedergerke, a senior, was a second-team pick at infielder.
Two other area players were Class 2 first-teamers, both senior infielders, as Linn's Ryan Mantle and Tipton's Luke Mercer were honored.
Also making the Class 2 second team were Calvary Lutheran senior Beau Monson at DH/utility and Linn senior Cameron Laughlin at outfielder. The Class 2 honorable mention squad included Tipton senior Grant Huhmann at pitcher and Russellville senior Caleb Harrison at catcher.
A pair of area players were named to the Class 1 honorable mention squad - Jamestown freshman Garrett Wolfe at pitcher and Tuscumbia senior Zane Humphreys at infielder.
