UPDATE: JCPD investigates report of shots fired

No one was hurt from shots being fired in the 400 block of East Ashley Street early Wednesday morning, but one man suffered a cut to his hand.

Police did not know how the man got the cut.

The shooting was reported around 2 a.m.

A bullet shattered a car window and another bullet hit a car door. The shooting scattered a crowd of people but witnesses were interviewed.

The motive for the shooting is unknown.

Several shell casings were found in the street.

Jefferson City police responded shortly before 2 a.m. today to a report of possible gunshots fired in the 400 block of East Ashley Street.

First responders and an ambulance also were called to the scene.

No other information was immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.
