A desire to take better photos of her children has evolved into a full-time photography business for Janelle Harris of Jefferson City.
"I got my first DSLR (camera) in 2010 and really liked it, and spent a lot of time learning and researching," Harris said. "Photography is the kind of field where you keep constantly evolving because the technology is constantly evolving. Those first four years, I learned a ton."
She began photographing weddings and taking portraits for family and friends in 2011, then gradually began working with other local photographers. Now, Janelle Harris Photography will begin operating out of its own office and photo studio at 315 Ellis Blvd., Suite 206.
Moving the photography work out of her home will allow her business to grow and evolve.
"I'll have space to meet with clients and review their images and do in-person ordering," Harris said.
The permanent studio also will allow her to focus more on her preferred photography engagements - newborn and children's portraits.
"There are lots of props and things involved. You have to haul it and put it up and take it down, and it's hard when you're not in control of the environment," Harris said.
Harris also offers children's portraits all the way through senior photos; family portraits; and engagement, wedding and boudoir photography.
Janelle Harris Photography will host a grand opening and open house with refreshments and information about photo packages from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the new studio on Ellis Blvd.
