Ameren closes floodgates at Bagnell Dam

The floodgates at Bagnell Dam have been closed, and the Lake of the Ozarks is now at its typical seasonal level, Ameren officials said Wednesday.

The floodgates were closed Monday once neighboring Truman Lake's water levels were allowed to recede.

"Water levels at both the Lake of the Ozarks and Truman Lake have gone down," said Warren Witt, director of hydro operations for Ameren Missouri. "The lake is at the level we'd like it to be for this time of year."

The floodgates were opened July 1 after heavy rains swelled lake levels. The lake crested at more than 662.5 feet on July 2. The floodgates have been open for all but a few days since then to allow water levels to decline at the Lake of the Ozarks and Truman Lake.

The Lake of the Ozarks stands at about 659 feet, its typical summertime level.

But Ameren Missouri officials cautioned those using the lake to remain watchful of debris, such as logs and tree limbs that were washed into the lake by the rains.
