Your Opinion: Rabbi responds to error in advertisement

Dear Editor:

I read the newspaper's apology regarding the cremation advertisement for Millard Family Funeral Chapels, depicting a Nazi solider. Where does one begin? As the only rabbi in Jefferson City, and someone who personally knows Reid Millard, I can attest to his humanity.

I am sure he is as shocked and appalled as I am at what you have done. But more importantly, what does this say about our education system? I can only assume that the person who created this ad, not only never heard of the Holocaust, but evidently missed who the enemy was in WWII.

Seventy years ago WWII ended; a war which killed more than 50 million people, among whom were six million Jews. It was only through the combined efforts of the Allies that the Nazis did not succeed in their goal of ridding Europe and the world of Jews.

I issue a call to your paper to take the lead in an effort to remedy this obvious ignorance. A start would be a series of articles discussing the Holocaust.
