Franks set to play in Stroke Play Championship

Kory Franks of Jefferson City will be one of 90-plus golfers bidding for a state title this week at the Missouri Golf Association's Stroke Play Championship.

Franks, a 2015 graduate of Blair Oaks High School who will play collegiately at Missouri State, will take part in the two-day event starting Tuesday at St. Joseph Country Club.

Franks is paired with Cy Moritz of Owensville and Wilson Sundvold of Columbia in the opening round of the 54-hole event.

In the tournament format, golfers will play 18 holes Tuesday and Wednesday. After the round Wednesday, the top 50 golfers and ties will advance to the championship round.

St. Joseph Country Club is par-71, measuring nearly 6,600 yards.

Carr Vernon of Mount Vernon won the 2014 title at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, totaling a 14-under 270.
