Experience "food as art' at Bon Appétit

Everybody loves food. Now they can experience it as art.

The Bon Appétit exhibition is open now through Aug. 5 at the Capital Arts Gallery, located at 1203 Missouri Blvd. in Jefferson City.

The artwork consists of images of food and related subjects, such as plants, presentations and platters.

"There are several images of food in the gallery," said Jeff Boyler, Capital Arts executive director. The images include paintings, photographs and other types of media art representing cakes, vegetables and plants.

Professional as well as new and emerging amateur artists will participate in the exhibition displaying their artwork. All are locally based artists.

Featured artist Kathryn Hajaved will speak about her work at an artist reception scheduled for 1-4 p.m. July 12. Hajaved will present her work in company with many other artists who will dsicuss their pieces.

The artist reception is free and open to the public, as are all receptions at Capital Arts.

Interested and hungry? Enjoy refreshments offered during the reception while you enjoy the food-related art in the gallery. The artists will be there, willing to answer to questions visitors might have about their artwork.

"People are often excited to hear that our gallery's artwork primarily features local artists with a few from around the state," Boyler said. "Approximately every six to seven weeks all of the artwork in the gallery is switched out for a new exhibition. In fact, we showcase more original and local art pieces than any other organization in Jefferson City."

During the reception people also can enjoy an activity room called Imagination Station. "This is a studio space stocked with art supplies and recycled items for upcycling craft projects," Boyler said. The Imagination Station costs $1 to experience.
