Tanner Elder claims Junior Amateur title

SMITHVILLE - Tanner Elder captured the title Tuesday at the Missouri Junior Amateur Championship.

Elder, who will be a senior this fall at Blair Oaks, shot a three-under 69 on Monday. Tuesday's round was rained out at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex.

Elder, who won the Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 2 state title earlier this year, won by a shot over Frankie Thomas of St. Louis and Worth Blackman of Mission Hills, Kan.

Nathan Erickson of Jefferson City tied for 40th in the event with a 78. Gabe Trowbridge of Jefferson City shot an 81 to tie for 71st, while Brett Trowbridge tied for 102nd with an 89.

A total of 114 players completed one round of the tournament.

On the girls side, Taylor Hayes of Lake Ozark tied for fifth after shooting a four-over 76 on Monday.

Brooke Thompson of Jefferson City finished in a two-way tie for 12th after carding an 81. Lauren Plunkett of Eugene tied for 18th, totaling an 84. Alex Nelson of Jefferson City finished 31st with a 90.

Olivia Sobaski of Sedalia took individual honors for the girls with a 73.

A total of 40 girls took part in the tournament.
