Post 5 Seniors go 1-1 in tournament

O'FALLON, Mo. - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors split a pair of pool-play games Friday in the American Legion Baseball Southwest Illinois Firecracker Classic.

The Seniors started the event with a 4-3 win against Festus, scoring three in the first inning and one in the second to account for all of their runs. Festus put up three runs in the fourth but couldn't pull off the comeback.

Alex Dickneite pitched the first six innings to get the win, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits while walking two and striking out six. Logan Vogel pitched a hitless seventh, picking up one strikeout.

Adam Grunden had a double and one RBI, while Vogel and Alex Barton had a single and one RBI apiece. Gavin Strobel and A.J. Elsworth had a pair of hits each and Cody Stegemann added a double.

Post 5 then dropped a 4-1 decision to Bryant (Ark.) Barrington, picking up its lone run in the sixth on a solo home run by Hayden Strobel. Barrington scored all four of its runs in the third.

Vogel rapped out a pair of hits in the loss and Stegemann had a double.

Jason Rackers threw a complete game while taking the loss, giving up four earned runs on 10 hits while striking out four.

Post 5 was slated to finish pool play with a pair of games late Saturday.
