Fire damages Jefferson City home

Fire damaged the interior of a Jefferson City home on Wednesday evening.

The owner returned to the home at 3028 Stadium View Court around 5:06 p.m. to observe thick smoke inside. Firefighters reported seeing smoke coming from the garage and roof when they arrived.

Fire Chief Matthew Schofield reported the blaze was quickly brought under control, but ventilation and salvage operations continued until after 8 p.m.

Fire damage was reported as significant but contained to the home's interior, primarily in the kitchen and surrounding floor, ceiling and cabinetry. There was smoke and heat damage throughout the residence.

The cause is believed to be electrical, possibly from a kitchen appliance.

No one was injured, but a family dog could not be revived and died from smoke inhalation.
