A charge of parental kidnapping was recently dismissed against a Texas woman involving a Cole County case.
Shanika Myers, 34, had been facing the charge after she took her 6-year-old son last July without the permission of the boy's father.
The incident ended peacefully with the safe return of the child.
There is no court-ordered custody agreement between the father and mother, but the boy has lived in Jefferson City his entire life with his dad, officials said. The mother, who has only seen the child a few times in his life, came to Jefferson City to visit him.
The father allowed them to go to a restaurant, but she failed to return the boy, officials said.
