Lee Enterprises announces CFO Carl Schmidt to retire

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - Lee Enterprises Inc. has announced that its chief financial officer will retire later this year.

Carl G. Schmidt informed the company, which publishes of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and other newspapers, he plans to retire July 1. Schmidt is the vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer.

Lee Enterprises chairwoman and CEO Mary Junck says a search for a successor has begun.

The 58-year-old Schmidt joined Lee in 2001. He was previously senior vice president, chief financial officer, secretary and treasurer of Johnson Outdoors, a publicly traded component of the SC Johnson group.

He began his career in 1978 as a certified public accountant at the KPMG LLP accounting firm in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, becoming a partner in 1988.
