Police shoot, wound driver in St. Louis County

DES PERES, Mo. (AP) - Authorities say a suburban St. Louis police sergeant has shot and wounded a driver while investigating a shoplifting report.

St. Louis County police spokesman Shawn McGuire said in a news release that the shooting happened Wednesday after a vehicle jumped a curb and headed toward a sergeant for the Des Peres Police Department, who was out of his patrol vehicle. McGuire said the sergeant fired two shots at the suspect's vehicle, striking the driver once in the arm.

The suspect's vehicle drove off before it was stopped and two people taken into custody. The release said the wounded driver was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
