Area man charged with gun assault

A Eugene man has been charged with assaulting a man this weekend by hitting him in the head with a pistol and threatening to kill him.

Dennis Moses, 35, is charged with second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

As of Monday, Moses was being held on $30,000 bond in the Cole County Jail.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows the attack occurred just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the 3100 block of Algoa Road.

The victim said Moses had traveled to his residence and an argument ensued over property.

The victim said Moses struck him multiple times in the head with a 9mm pistol. The victim also said Moses pointed the pistol at his head and threatened to kill him before fleeing the area.

Witnesses confirmed the victim's story, and the victim's injuries were consistent with being struck with a firearm.

When interviewed by authorities, Moses initially said he hit the victim with his fist, not a pistol, but when questioned again later he said," I don't remember."

A search of Moses' residence turned up two 9mm pistols, each with a round in the chamber.
