Jays fall to Vikings at Kaminsky Classic

JOPLIN, Mo. - The Francis Howell Vikings used a pair of big runs Saturday on their way to a 61-49 victory against the Jefferson City Jays in the title game of the Kaminsky Classic.

Jefferson City jumped out to a 14-4 lead early before Francis Howell closed the quarter with a 4-0 run to cut the deficit to six. But Francis Howell ended the second quarter with a 13-3 spurt, capped by a three-point play by Clayton Ambrose at the buzzer, to take a 28-21 advantage into intermission.

The Vikings then opened the second half with a 10-0 run to take a 38-21 lead. The Jays were able to cut the deficit to 10 on a couple of occasions in the fourth quarter on 3-pointers by Seth Stegeman and Gunnar See, but could get no closer.

Brett Elifritz led three Vikings in double figures with 15 points. Colton White and Sam Hefner added 13 points each for Francis Howell (10-4), which won the Kaminsky Classic for the first time in 11 trips to the event.

Stegeman paced Jefferson City (7-6) with 14 points, including four 3-pointers. O.G. Anunoby, an all-tournament selection, had six points for the Jays, who will host Battle on Tuesday.
