Jays defeat Rolla for 25th straight dual victory

ROLLA - The Jefferson City Jays established a school record for regular-season dual wrestling victories with a 44-18 victory Wednesday night against the Rolla Bulldogs.

The win was the 25th straight in the regular season for the Jays, who have not lost since opening the 2012-13 season with a loss at Lebanon.

"I think the kids just decided they didn't like losing," Jays coach Phil Cagle said. "The juniors and seniors on this team deserve a lot of credit for what they've accomplished with this record."

Jefferson City picked up nine individual victories on its way to Wednesday night's win.

Christian Mayberry at 132 pounds, Logan Moriarity at 160, Ian Coil at 220 and Logan Coil at 285 all won by fall for the Jays.

Corbin Howard won by technical fall at 120. Jacob Brune took a major decision at 145, while Tanner Irwin at 138 and Rashaun Woods at 182 both win by regular decisions. Jalen Martin at 195 won by forfeit.

"The kids have put in a lot of hard work during the past couple of years and that's really led us to getting the record," Cagle said.

Cagle said counting duals in tournaments, the Jays are 47-6 since the start of the 2012-13 season.

The Jays will look to extend the streak Friday night in a tri-dual against Ozark and Nixa in Ozark.

Jefferson City won Wednesday night's JV dual 62-12 against Rolla.
