Your Opinion: Liberals errantly credit Obama

Dear Editor:

I'm writing in response to Lawrence Wansing's letter published Dec. 30. As usual for liberal Democrats, Wansing attempts to give Obama credit for something he had nothing to do with and as a matter of fact the Obama administration attempted to hinder fracking at every turn.

I call your attention to the "United States Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works Minority Staff Report - Setting the Record Straight: Hydraulic Fracturing and America's Energy Revolution" dated 10/23/2014. ( http://www.epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Files.View&FileStore_id=beed1c2e-1210-48f1-8367-f967fab49c38 ).

Statements and quotes from this report are as follows: "The Obama Administration has granted only half the amount of leases compared to those granted under the Clinton Administration and a third less than those granted under the Bush Administration."

The report notes a 6 percent fall in oil production and a 28 percent fall in natural gas production on federal lands between 2009 and 2013. The Interior Department's Inspector General said only 6 percent of (drilling) permit application reviews are done within the required 30-day period and that review may continue indefinitely. Anyone interested in the truth about the Obama administration's role in the oil boom needs to read this report and not listen to deceptive rhetoric by Obama supporters.

The real reason we have $2 gas; good old American ingenuity driven by the market place which we haven't seen the likes of for decades! It's called capitalism for those who have forgotten what it is, how it works and that it is what made this country great. Had it not been for the "evil" oil companies risking their capital and investing in drilling on private lands instead of relying on the Obama administration issuing permits on public lands, we would probably be paying $5 for gas instead of $2.

If there is anything in this world that should prove to you liberal socialist Democrats that capitalism is the only way to economic freedom and growth it's been clearly demonstrated by what we're paying for gas and the effect the low oil prices have had on our and the world's economy.

Regarding pipeline construction, I wonder how much we would be paying for gas had the Alaska pipeline not been built? Mr. Wansing, wake up and give up on the Democrat play-book rhetoric and the politics of personal destruction and let's make this country great again!
