Sappenfield-Nevins, Gastineau named to William Woods Hall of Fame

FULTON, Mo. - A pair of area athletes were among the inductees last month into the William Woods University Hall of Fame.

Saysha Sappenfield-Nevins and Tracy Gastineau were inducted for their outstanding achievements while playing for William Woods.

Sappenfield-Nevins was a pitcher on the softball team from 1995-98. She is the university's all-time leader in wins (79), saves (12), appearances (130), games started (101), innings pitched (675.1) and batters faced (2,812). She is second in strikeouts and complete games.

Sappenfield-Nevins was a three-time All-American Midwest Conference first-team selection, earning conference pitcher of the year honors in the 1995 and 1996 seasons. She also was NAIA Region V first team three times and pitcher of the year in both 1995 and 1996.

She also was a four-time all-conference honoree in academics, earning NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors in 1997 and 1998 and was a NFCA Scholar Athlete in 1998.

Gastineau is currently in the assistant athletics director and head softball coach at William Woods. She took over as head softball coach in 1998 and led the Owls to a record of 45-13 and was named AMC and NFCA Midwest Coach of the Year.

She enters the 2015 season with 592 career victories and has been named AMC coach of the year five times.

Under Gastineau, William Woods has made six appearances in the NAIA National Tournament.

As a player, Gastineau was all-district in softball in 1992 and 1993 at William Woods. She also was all-district in basketball as a senior.

Sappenfield-Nevins and Gastineau are part of the third Hall of Fame class at William Woods.
