Boys Basketball: Class 2 District 8

RUSSELLVILLE - The Linn Wildcats weren't great from the free-throw line Tuesday night, but they were good enough.

Linn hit 5-of-9 free throws in the fourth quarter, outscoring Calvary Lutheran 15-5 in the period, and defeated the Lions 40-34 in a first-round game of the Class 2 District 8 Tournament.

With the win, second-seeded Linn (16-10) advances to Thursday night's semifinal against sixth-seeded Russellville. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Calvary Lutheran led 6-5 after one quarter and 21-15 at the half. The Lions took a 29-25 advantage into the final period.

Beau Monson finished with a game-high 19 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Lions. Cal Kolzow pulled down a team-high seven rebounds Calvary Lutheran (10-14).

Blake Snyder had eight points to pace Linn, which was just 8-of-20 from the line in the game.

Russellville (10-14) was a 57-44 winner against Tipton in the final game Tuesday.

Levi Anderson totaled 26 points and 15 rebounds for Russellville, which led 16-6 after one quarter and 23-13 at the half.

Coy Bond added 16 points for the Indians.

Dylan Cooper finished with 14 points for Tipton.

Thursday night's first semifinal will pit top-seeded Iberia against fourth-seeded Vienna. Iberia topped Belle 65-29 in the first game Tuesday, followed by Vienna's 72-56 win against New Bloomfield.

Isaac Weider tossed in a game-high 35 points for Vienna in its victory to lead four Eagles in double figures. Jordan Garnett added 11 points for Vienna, which led 16-11 after one quarter and stretched that advantage to 40-26 at the half.

Braeden Patton and Isaac Farrow chipped in with 10 points each for the winners.
