Falcons take fourth at districts, will send five to state

Wrestlers from Versailles, Fatima, Tipton also advance

VERSAILLES, Mo. - The Blair Oaks Falcons finished fourth in the Class 1 District 2 Wrestling Tournament that concluded Saturday.

Frankie Falotico and Chance Cumpton claimed individual title for the Falcons, who will sent a total of five wrestlers to the state tournament.

Falotico went 4-0 in the two-day event, winning his first three matches by fall before edging Jesse Rhoades of Seneca 2-1 in the title match at 132 pounds.

Cumpton went 3-0 to take the title at 285 pounds, including a 3-2 decision against Craig Dewitt of Warsaw in the title match.

The Falcons, the defending Class 1 state champions, finished with 102 points. Seneca was first with 239.5, with Versailles (176) and Centralia (144) rounding out the top three in the 15-team event.

The other three Falcons state qualifiers finished fourth in districts - London Gaydos at 126, Alex Gaydos at 138 and Tanner Lueckenhoff at 182.

The Class 1 state tournament begins at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mizzou Arena.

Versailles finished with three individual champions - Nathan Long at 120, Adam Guinn at 160 and Willie Schotte at 170.

Long won by injury default against Marshall Wilson of Warsaw in his title match. He was 3-0 in the tournament, winning twice by fall.

Guinn also was 3-0, including a 7-4 win against Kyle Williams of Diamond in the title match.

Schotte won twice by fall in going 3-0, including pinning Kenneth Shaughnessy of Springfield Catholic for the crown.

Taking second for Versailles were Konner Shewmaker at 106, Kooper Wilson at 113 and Drew Ballew at 182. Dalton Schmidt was third at 145, while Rex Sheeley was fourth at 220.

The Fatima Comets were 10th in the final team standings with 50.5 points.

Caleb Schroeder led Fatima, taking second at 138. Clayton Haslag at 106 and Cody Huhn at 132 were both fourth, giving the Comets three state qualifiers.

The Tipton Cardinals have three state qualifiers as well after finishing eighth in the team standings with 67 points.

Ryan Bruce at 195 and Charles Walsh at 220 both finished third, while Robert Gutierrez was fourth at 113.
