Ground-breaking began this week for Cole County's first cremation center.

The Trimble family has begun construction of a 2,700-square-foot addition to the east side of Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, 3210 North Ten Mile Drive, which will house the new crematory, according to a news release.

This addition will also provide a comfortable gathering area for families wishing to spend private moments or have prayers with their loved ones prior to the cremation itself.

"While traditional burial and entombment remain the preferred choices for the majority of Midwestern families, there are many individuals for whom cremation is an acceptable alternative," said Kent Trimble, president of Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, in the release.

"We have always sought to meet the needs of everyone requesting our services, and this is yet another way we are doing so," said Kyle Trimble.

Christy Trimble added, "By incorporating the crematory into our existing funeral home, a family's loved one will never leave our care and never leave our protection."

The crematory is scheduled to be operational by early summer upon receipt of all required licenses and certifications. Both Kent and Kyle Trimble have received training and credentials as Certified Crematory Operators from the National Funeral Directors Association, and will be the cremationists supervising each cremation operation.

A public open house will be held upon completion of the new addition.
