It would be like trying to pick your favorite child.

If you're Helias Lady Crusaders basketball coach Doug Light, do you take:

• The first quarter, when Helias outscored Mexico 19-0.

• Or the third quarter, when Helias outscored Mexico 27-0.

Light liked them both, equally.

"We played pretty well in both of them," Light said after the Lady Crusaders defeated the Lady Bulldogs 62-25 on Tuesday night at Rackers Fieldhouse.

The Lady Crusaders obviously dominated from the start. A 3-pointer by Molly Light with 3:45 left in the first quarter made it 11-0 and brought a Mexico timeout. The Bulldogs were 0-of-5 from the field with three turnovers at that point.

A pair of layups by Kaitlyn Cowell in the span of a minute highlighted the remainder of the quarter, which ended with Helias holding the 19-point advantage. Mexico was 0-of-11 from the field with eight turnovers.

"It was a great start," Doug Light said. "I think our press disrupted them a little bit and we shot the ball pretty well."

Mexico got on the board in the opening minute of the second quarter on a 3-pointer by Riley Greenwell. The Lady Bulldogs went 4-of-7 on 3s in the quarter and trailed 33-16 at intermission.

"We let the ball get in the middle of the floor too much and that opened up lanes for them to shoot the ball," Light said.

Light had one message for the Lady Crusaders during the break.

"We can't give up 16 points in a quarter again," he said.

They didn't. Mexico missed its three field-goal attempts in the third quarter, turning the ball over 11 times.

"We made a couple of adjustments and did a good job on covering their shooters," Light said.

Meanwhile, Helias was 7-of-17 from the field and 11-of-14 at the free-throw line on its way to a 27-point quarter and a 60-16 advantage heading into the final period.

"We hang our hats on our defense," Light said.

Mexico outscored Helias 9-2 in the fourth quarter played with a running clock.

Cowell came off the bench to lead Helias with 16 points.

"She's been practicing really well, it's not a surprise she had a game like that," Light said.

Mai Nienhueser added 11 points, also in a reserve role. Molly Sandbothe pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, while Nienhueser had seven.

Helias played 11 players in the first quarter and 13 total in the game.

"It was a great opportunity to play a lot of kids and they all did a very good job," Light said.

Greenwell and Adria Costley had six points each to lead Mexico (5-14).

Helias (13-8) will be in action Thursday at Hickman.

"They are one of the top Class 5 teams in the state right now," Light said.
