2 in custody for early morning burglary in JC

Two men are in custody for an early morning burglary in Jefferson City.

Police reports show officers were called just after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday to a residential burglary in the 900 block of Boonville Road.

When officers arrived in the area, a pickup truck was leaving the scene and was subsequently stopped by officers.

When officers looked in the back of the truck, they saw a number of parts that belonged to the owner of the home where the burglary alarm was received.

In addition, officers found forced entry to a window on the north side of the residence and another suspect was seen running from the area prior to officers' arrival. One neighbor was able to give officers a description of the suspect who fled.

The driver of the vehicle, Jonathan W. Williamson, 37, Jefferson City, was arrested for driving while revoked, stealing and second-degree burglary.

Officers searched the area with the assistance of Buzz, a Jefferson City Police Department K-9, but were unable to locate the second suspect at that time.

A few hours later while on routine patrol and still looking for the suspect, the JCPD K-9 officer and Buzz observed a male subject matching the suspect's description in the 300 block of Commerce Drive by the Runge Nature Center.

When the officer began to stop with the intent to investigate, the suspect ran from the officer and into the woods.

The officer and Buzz pursued the suspect on foot and, despite repeated commands to stop, the suspect continued to run.

The K-9 team was able to tackle the suspect and take him into custody. The K-9 officer sustained minor injuries in the scuffle, as did the suspect.

The suspect, Eric E. Arnold, 38, Jefferson City, was arrested for second-degree burglary, stealing, resisting arrest and second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer.
