Carrie Tergin believes she can bring positive change to Jefferson City as its next mayor.

A six-way race is set for the Jefferson City mayoral seat, with 3rd Ward Councilman Bob Scrivner, Leonard Steinman, Tergin, Edith Vogel, Roy Viessman and Richard S. Groner all hoping to win the April 7 election.

Tergin, a graduate of Missouri State University, served six years on the City Council, representing the 4th Ward until April 2014. She also serves as a member of the Board of Governors for Missouri State University.

Tergin said she can use positive leadership to set a new tone for the community. She said an important issue for her is to continue strong communication with partners in the area, such as the county and state, to see where they can work together. She said she also wants the city to be as open and accessible as possible for residents to help improve trust in city officials. Tergin said, as a councilwoman, she was always available to any city resident on any issue, regardless of what ward was affected.

Tergin said the Jefferson City community means a lot to her and she wants to be a part of the many great things soon to happen in the area.

"We can make wonderful things happen in our community, and I am all for that," Tergin said. "We are so much stronger when we work together."

In her spare time, Tergin said she is an artist who enjoys photography and painting, especially images of the Capitol. Tergin also enjoys traveling to Greece and being involved in community organizations, such as the Capital City Cinema Board of Directors.
