Red Wheel Bike Shop began its long-awaited move to Jefferson City's Millbottom development this weekend.

The bike shop, formerly located at 2701 W. Edgewood Drive, is the first tenant in the commercially redeveloped building at 400 W. Main St., which previously housed an Ameren power plant.

The new location gives Red Wheel easy access to the Katy Trail, a major selling point for the business' newest venture - bike rentals.

"We're going to really try to focus on the rentals," said Red Wheel owner Nick Smith. The business also sells new bicycles and offers repair services.

Red Wheel Bike Shop will be closed this week, and should reopen at its new location Feb. 9.

The rest of the Millbottom development, which also houses two more rooms, a small outbuilding and outdoor patio, is estimated to be move-in ready this April.
