Capitol City Truck & Specialty will open in Jefferson City at 1011 Missouri Blvd. this week.
The used car dealership specializing in diesel trucks, Jeeps and hot rods has been sharing space with Capitol Car Care down the road for several months while owner Jasen Smith prepared the new space, former home to Concord Custom Cleaners.
Smith previously was a partner at Tergin Motor Sports but decided to start his own business to work more with the vehicles he's most passionate about.
"It's just kind of what I enjoy more than anything else," he said. "I figure if I like them, then probably somebody else will, too."
The Jefferson City area is a great market for diesel trucks, he said, and he markets the classic sports cars - models like Camaro, Chevelle, Impala and Corvette, mostly from the 1950s through 1970s - on a more national level.
"We feel like we have a niche market, and we do a lot of nationwide sales via Internet" at capitolcitytruck.com, Smith said.
The Missouri Boulevard dealership will keep about 12-15 vehicles at a time, with an indoor showroom for three or four classic cars and plenty of warehouse space so all repair work can be done indoors.
