Your Opinion: Dress code comments exemplify "rape culture'

Dear Editor:

The Kansas City Star reports that, on the heels of two state legislators having been exposed for sexual harassment and other improprieties with interns, among remedies being proposed by lawmakers themselves is a dress code for the interns. The idea that the victimized must cover themselves so as not to tempt the predators is a stunning example of rape culture.

The Missouri Chapter of the National Organization for Women proclaims that legislators must focus on doing the work that ensures the well-being of the people of the state of Missouri and characterize all their interactions within and related to the workplace with professionalism and respect. It is inappropriate to obsess over women's hemlines or necklines.
