Three Story Coffee will be expanding in Jefferson City from Dunklin Street to a second location in the newly-renovated Millbottom building next to Red Wheel Bicycle Shop.

Three Story Coffee soon will expand to a second location.

The Jefferson City coffee shop has operated at 122 E. Dunklin St. since November 2012. Owners Tony and Sarah Anderson focus on selling fair trade coffee and tea bought directly from international farmers, and roast their coffees at the Old Munichburg store.

The Andersons recently leased the small, 380-square-foot building next to The Millbottom at 400 W. Main St., which houses Red Wheel Bike Shop and the Millbottom Event Center. Three Story Coffee will use the West Main Street spot near the Capitol to serve prepared coffee and tea drinks.

They hope to have Three Story Coffee's second location up and running by mid-October, said Tony Anderson.

The addition will help accommodate increased production at the Old Munichburg store.

"It kind of lets us focus and specialize what we do in two different places," Anderson said. "We, from the beginning, have wanted this to be focused more on the roastery and coffee store."

Three Story Coffee recently began producing coffee for a private-label brand, the ZimZam Blend, which is sold to churches and individuals to support the work of ministry organization ZimZam Global.

"We're literally shipping coffees to churches coast to coast," Anderson said. "We need to take a little pressure off this location."

Three Story also provides coffee for other restaurants and cafes, like Brew House Coffee in Jefferson City.

The Andersons were fielding more and more requests at the Old Munichburg coffee shop to expand hours for prepared drinks, another reason for the expansion.

"We've had people asking us since the beginning when we're going to be open earlier, when we're going to be open on Mondays," Anderson said of the Old Munichburg shop, which is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays. "We saw this as an opportunity to have a dedicated drink location that had better access and more traffic."

The new Three Story Coffee drink shop will be open from 6:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on weekdays, with shorter hours on Saturdays. It will eventually expand the variety of what Three Story Coffee currently offers - coffee, tea and espresso drinks - to include fruit smoothies, handcrafted sodas and a few simple food options.

Some bagged coffees will be available for purchase at the new location, and the original store will continue serving the prepared drinks it currently offers.

Three Story Coffee's Millbottom cafe will not be large enough for indoor seating, but will take orders inside and offer outdoor patio seating.

Anderson said he is looking forward to opportunities to collaborate with Red Wheel Bike Shop and the Millbottom Event Center, such as serving during extended hours during concerts and events hosted there.

"I think that's going to be a really fun area," he said.
