A free concert of opera and show tunes at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at First Presbyterian Church, 324 Madison St., will feature Jefferson City native Suzanne Woods.

The soprano has performed many lead roles in modern and traditional musicals and operas. She also has been the soprano soloist, including a performance of Mozart's Requiem" and Schubert's "Mass in G" at Carnegie Hall.

The American Record Guide described her as a "delightful diva, spinning out golden tone; revealing fine musicality and plenty of voice to spare" and by the Cleveland Plain Dealer as possessing "consummate artistry and vocal allure."

The daughter of the late Gerald and Teddy Woods, she got her start as Eliza Doolittle in Jefferson City High School's 1985 performance of "My Fair Lady." She has performed on other occasions in Jefferson City, most recently for an "Opera Highlights" concert with the Jefferson City Symphony.

Woods will perform with her husband and tenor, John Pickle. The couple reside in New York. Pickle most recently performed in "The Flying Dutchman" and has sung leading roles for operas and symphonies across the nation.

First Presbyterian Church organist/pianist Jimmy Kay Sanders will accompany Woods and Pickle.
