Jays baseball splits pair despite no-hitter

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Jefferson City Jays split a pair of games Friday to open the River City Festival, with their loss coming in most unusual fashion.

In their second game of the day, the Jays lost 2-0 to Lawrence despite getting a no-hitter from Travis Hennessey.

Hennessey struck out 11 Lawrence batters while taking the loss, as the Jays managed just three hits of their own. Hennessey had one of them, with Bret Jaegers collecting the other two.

Jefferson City opened the day with a 7-5 win against Olathe (Kan.) East.

The Jays got another complete-game effort from a pitcher in that one, as Jacob Weirich scattered seven hits while striking out seven.

Bryce Beckley and Jaegers had two hits and one RBI apiece to pace the offense. Grant Wood had one hit and one RBI and Ripken Dodson plated one run with a squeeze bunt.

Jefferson City (12-8) will play Raymore-Peculiar at 11:30 a.m. today before wrapping up the event at 2 p.m. against Lee's Summit West.
