Blue Tigers swept by Quincy in baseball

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy Hawks led from start to finish in the opener, then used a late rally in the nightcap to sweep a baseball doubleheader with the Lincoln Blue Tigers on Tuesday.

The Hawks got a grand slam in the bottom of the first in the lidlifter, then put together a five-run fifth to win the first game by a 9-4 score.

The Blue Tigers got two runs in the third inning - on an RBI single by Dillon Walker and a sacrifice fly by Kaleb Davis - then added two in the seventh on a two-run single by Walker to account for all of their scoring.

Walker ended up 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead Lincoln, while Mason Price chipped in with two hits.

Kolton Clark (0-7) started and took the loss for Lincoln. He allowed six earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out one in 42/3 innings.

Gus Goodnight pitched 1/3 of an inning, allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits and one walk with one strikeout. Zach Moore pitched the final frame and allowed two hits while striking out one.

In the second game, Quincy rallied from a 3-1 deficit thanks to three runs in both the fourth and six innings, claiming a 7-3 victory.

Lincoln got two runs in the third thanks to RBI doubles by Walker and Davis that started the scoring. The Blue Tigers went up 3-1 in the top of the fourth thanks to an RBI single by Alex Ludwick before the Hawks started their comeback.

Davis had two hits and one RBI and was the only Blue Tiger with multiple hits.

Lincoln used five pitchers in the seven-inning contest, with Tyler Roberts (1-6) taking the loss in relief.

Dalton Goings pitched the first, allowing just one hit, while Jordan Barrett pitched the second and allowed one hit while striking out one.

Next came Roberts, who allowed four earned runs on five hits in 11/3 innings. He struck out one and walked one.

Ryan Simpson followed and pitched 12/3 innings, giving up one hit and one walk. Caleb Thomas pitched the final inning and allowed three unearned runs on one hit and two hit batters.

The Hawks improved to 27-14, while the Blue Tigers fell to 3-41.

Lincoln will close out both the home portion of its schedule and Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play with a four-game set this weekend at Lincoln Field against Fort Hays State. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Friday before a single game at 11 a.m. Saturday and another single game at noon Sunday.

The Blue Tigers will then end the season April 29 with a doubleheader at Missouri-St. Louis.
