Your Opinion: Response on climate change

Dear Editor:

I'm writing in response to Tony Smith's letter published April 12, "Dangers of denial on climate change." Specifically my opinion is to address his first statement(s): "If your physician told you that you had a cancer would you tell him that is a hoax? Maybe you would if you were a conservative."

I am a conservative and proud of it! I take offense at his insinuation that being a conservative is something less than an intelligent logical thinking individual that doesn't know the difference between a diagnosis based on ideologically created and manipulated computer models and hard evidence based on biopsies, X-rays and/or lab evidence before submitting to painful and expensive treatments.

When leftist liberals know they can't win a debate on facts, logical conclusions and/or risk analysis they introduce emotion, such as suggesting their opponent is in denial, hopefully creating guilt which will then put them on the offensive and therefore eke out a win by default. This is why liberals dislike conservatives so much, we believe so strong in God and America that their ploy just doesn't work with us!

The following is real world, not denial! I call your attention to a April 13 article by Danny Lee Weston titled "India: We Won't Bow to Western Pressure on CO2 Emissions." (http://www.breitbart.com/london/2015/04/13/india-we-wont-bow-to-western-pressure-on-co2-emissions/). Quotes from the article: "In the lengthy run up to the international climate conference ("COP21') in Paris later this year, Modi's comments will be sure to cause consternation amongst climate campaigners." "As the third largest CO2 emitter behind China (1st) and the U.S. (2nd), climate negotiators are keen to secure some kind of meaningful agreement to reductions from India at the Paris negotiations. However, Modi's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has pursued a development agenda that is at odds with Western hand-wringing. The BJP has opened up the nation's coal mining industry in a bid to meet domestic demand. It has also taken on environmentalist groups such as Greenpeace, regarding the latter as inimically hostile to India's economic success."

Until China and India agree to international inspections and substantial fines for non-compliance, then for our government to levy a carbon tax or cap and trade on us is totally absurd! How can we ever expect to compete economically in the world market place?
