Your Opinion: Scripture defines what marriage is

Dear Editor:

Our country today is literally ablaze with the emotionally charged debate not only about whether to legalize so called "same-sex marriage" but whether to redefine marriage essentially as to what it is. The issue that Christians have with the arrangement is that it violates God's holy Sixth Commandment. So we are now faced with the demanded legalization of same-sex marriage as the ultimate in-your-face by the gay and lesbian community, which insists that its lifestyle choice be recognized as moral. And no one dare voice criticism of homosexuality lest he be branded as homophobic which it is not.

The fact of the matter is that homosexuality is condemned by Holy Scripture as a perversion of God's natural order of things, as unnatural, as indecent and as a particularly abominable form of fornication in his sight. The appearance that same-sex marriage are real marriages, moral and mutually established by consenting adults only makes them caricatures of marriage and not real God-defined marriages. Simply to redefine marriage to include them is as nutty and crazy as re-defining fatherhood to include females or motherhood to include males.

Civil governments nor the courts should not determine what is right or wrong in spiritual matters, as God tells us in Acts 5:29, "We ought to obey God rather than men."

So we dare not minimize the sinful character of homosexuality by reducing it to a mere lifestyle or preference which people may legitimately choose without incurring the wrath of God.

Basically, the Bible truth is this: Jesus Christ owns us, lock, stock and barrel. He purchased us with his own blood on the cross. So we as God's children should treasure his institution of holy marriage as an image of Christ's relationship with his bride, the church that it should be holy and without blemish. We should not be surprised when the world regards us as strange because we having been redeemed by Christ and now being Christ-minded do not want to live the rest of time in the flesh to the perverted, shameful lusts of men but to the will of God and people speak evil of us because we do not join them in their sinful actions as they seek to legitimize what God has judged to be wicked.

I wonder if the Bible unbelievers, atheists, (God-defined fools) will have any regrets about their lifestyle choice on the day of judgment when that terrifying scene unfolds when Christ, the judge, rejects them.
