College softball: Cougars go 3-1

COLUMBIA - The Columbia College Cougars went 3-1 in a pair of softball doubleheaders this weekend.

On Friday, the Cougars split a twinbill with Lindenwood-Bellville, winning the opener 2-1 before losing the second game by the same score.

In the opener, Paxton Welch got the win by limiting Lindenwood-Belleville to just one unearned run. She scattered four hits and did not walk a batter while striking out one.

In the second game, Allyson Metz (Jefferson City High School) paced the Cougars with two hits and one RBI.

On Saturday, the Cougars opened their doubleheader with the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and posted a 7-3 win.

Welch worked the first five innings to get the win, giving up one earned run on four hits while striking out two. Tiffany Urwiler (School of the Osage High School) pitched the last two innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts.

The Cougars then blasted the Eutectics 15-2 to finish the weekend.

Metz had two hits and two RBI and Dakota Newton (Jefferson City High School) scored one run.

Columbia College is now 25-16 overall and wrapped up its American Midwest Conference season with a mark of 16-8.
