Renfrow out-raises school board competitors

In the race for the Jefferson City Board of Education, Dan Renfrow has raised more funds than his competitors.

According to Missouri Ethics Commission reports due eight days before the election, Renfrow, who manages the Trust Department at Hawthorn Bank, has collected $5,826. In comparison, Pam Murray has raised $4,545, Adrian Hendricks II has received $4,472 and Michael Couty has amassed $3,519.

Murray is a retired health care worker who formerly served on the Holts Summit Board of Alderman. Hendricks works as the Central Missouri youth development specialist for Lincoln University's Cooperative Extension. Couty serves as juvenile court administrator at the Prenger Family Center.

Two of the candidates, Renfrow and Murray, have in-kind contributions worth $897 and $565, respectively.

The remaining candidate, Joy Sweeney, was not required to file a full-disclosure campaign finance report. Such reports are only necessary if the candidate plans to raise at least $1,000 in combined contributions and expenditures or accept a contribution worth more than $325 from a single giver.

Sweeney, who serves as executive director of the Jefferson City Council for Drug-Free Youth, noted she raised and spent $250 during the course of the election.

"My goal was not to out-raise the other candidates," she said. "My goal was to speak to my record."

Going into the last week of the campaign, Couty has the most money on hand - $1,635 - compared with $1,330 by Hendricks, $981 by Murray and $515 by Renfrow.

Renfrow has spent the most - $4,410 - on his campaign, followed by Hedricks with $3,118, Murray with $2,746 and Couty with $1,859.

The reports also list the candidates' largest contributors.
